Client: SD+
Most internal communication tools are built for people at the desks. In construction, almost no one is. Employees are spread across construction sites and locations, with a phone in the pocket and rarely a computer or anything more at hand. That changes what an intranet needs to be.
We came in as SD+'s strategic and creative partner with the brief to build a mobile intranet that fits the way SD+ actually works.
The problem
SD+'s workforce is built around construction sites, not offices. Information needs to reach people where they are, on the device they always have on them, in a format that takes seconds to use. A traditional desktop based intranet would only work for the few who sit at a computer during the day.
What SD+ needed was a mobile first platform that could carry internal communication across the entire company. Practical for worker out on the site, scalable enough to grow with the business, and flexible enough to add new features as the way SD+ communicates internally evolves.
The solution
The platform is built as a scalable employee engagement and social app based intranet for a workforce on the move. It puts the company's communication, information, and updates directly in the pocket of every employee, and it adapts to the rhythm of construction work rather than the rhythm of an office.
It is built as a single cross-platform Flutter codebase that runs on both iOS and Android, with a Firebase and Google Cloud backend handling everything from authentication to push notifications and real time data. It is delivered as a multi-tenant SaaS, where each company has its own tenant, and all data is encrypted in transit.
The features are built around how the workforce actually communicates. A feed for company-wide updates, contacts and chat for one to one and group conversations, polls for fast input, a shared calendar with booking, and a digital shelf that holds the handbook, onboarding material, and other content the team needs to reach quickly.
New features can be added as SD+'s communication needs evolve, without rebuilding the underlying setup. That keeps the intranet aligned with the business at every stage, rather than becoming something the company has to work around.
For the people using it, the value is simple. The information they need is one tap away, no matter where they are. For SD+ as a business, it means everyone is on the same page, regardless of role or location.
The outcome
SD+ has a mobile intranet that connects the entire company across building sites and locations. Information moves faster, communication reaches everyone, and the day to day no longer relies on whether someone is near a computer.
The point
The tools a company uses shape how it operates. An intranet that only works at a desk leaves out the people who are rarely at one. An intranet built around the way the work actually happens brings everyone in.
That is what makes the difference between a platform that gets used and one that does not.
